Bright Lights in Sky

Logansport, Indiana          Cass County          Sky: Clear with stars visible
August 8, 2005          10:15 PM          Duration: Few Seconds

Tonight we were sitting outside and saw six or seven bright lights in the sky over the south side of Logansport Indiana.  They appeared to be in pairs; two in west, then two to the south, then 2-3 to the northwest. My husband then saw them in the north sky traveling very fast, much faster than any airplane or helicopter could fly. They were yellow/orange in color and only lasted a few seconds each. They were the strangest thing we have ever experienced in our lives. They were very far away. From were we saw them, they appeared to be softball size but they seemed to be at a very high altitude. I have never really thought much about UFO's but this was very strange.

Triple Sighting: Orange Light/Triangle/Moving Star

Elkhart, Indiana                    Elkhart County
August 6, 2005          10;15 PM                    Sky: Clear

My friend and I were on a quick cruise on our motorcycles at about 10:15 pm.  At approximately 10:30 we turned onto our road with my friend was ahead of me.  He made turned and as I came up to it, I thought I saw an orange light out of the corner of my eye directly North of us.  But, when I looked up, nothing was there.  I looked back and saw my friend had shut his bike off in the middle of the street.  I pulled up and asked him what he was doing.  He said, "Did you see that?"  I said, "The orange light?  Yeah, I saw it for a split second, but it was gone."  He said that when he turned on our road he could see it for about a full second, and it simply disappeared.  We made our way back home, and stood around in the driveway talking about what we had seen.

About 5 minutes later (10:36 pm or so) we saw the light again.  It was low enough to get lost behind some trees.  It was about as large as if you held a pea out at arms length, and very bright. We ran out to the road to re-acquire the light.  We watched it for about 30 seconds. It was North of us, heading south, right at us.  It didn't seem to be traveling very fast.  Then, like before, it disappeared.  It didn't look like something simply 'turned off.'  It looked as if the light caved in on itself.  We went inside to grab the video camera, sure that the light would return.  We went back outside, and waited.

We didn't see the orange light again, but, at about 10:45 pm to our disbelief we saw what appeared to be a triangle with a solid red light at each corner.  There was no sound, and no flashing lights.  It was traveling SE at a pretty high speed.  Assuming it's altitude to be around 30,000 ft.  I would say it was moving at about 500-600 mph, and would be much larger than an airliner.  At this point, we realized the battery for our camera was dead.  30 seconds later, it was only visible as a small red speck in the sky, that faded to nothing.  A few minutes later, my friend was in the garage, and I was standing just outside of it.  I glanced over our house, and saw what I thought to be a very bright star.  I looked away, thinking to myself I didn't remember seeing a star that bright in that position in the sky.  I looked back and noticed it was moving north, slowly.  As it moved it was dimming.  By the time I yelled at my friend, and he ran out, it was about half as bright as it was originally.  We watched it slowly move north and fade in intensity for about 20 seconds.  Before it was totally faded out, we observed a 'core', something solid the light was coming from.  It simply was not visible once the light had dimmed completely.  We were scared through each of these observations.  I am unsure of what, but, there is definitely something going on out here.  This is not the first time that I have seen strange things in the sky in recent months.  I have seen things by myself, as well with other witnesses.

Triangular craft with red, white, and blue lights

Carmel, Indiana          Hamilton County          Reporting Date: July 8, 2005
Time: 10:00/12:00 PM

Witness Note: The exact date of the event is a bit unknown, I can only remember that it was 5 or 6 years ago near the end of Summer.

Somewhere between 10 and 12 p.m. on a relatively isolated road somewhere near the Carmel, Indiana Mejier store (which is where we were headed) my twin brother, father, and I had an encounter with a large, floating triangular shaped object. In our station wagon with our dad driving we were seated in the back of the vehicle. My brother initially spotted the object coming to the left of our vehicle. It matched our velocity and followed directly above our vehicle for fifteen minutes or so. It made no sound and had red, white, and blue lights on its three tips (we both made note of this thing in particular). I couldn't see significantly above this craft as it was directly above us, but I had the impression it was pyramidal in shape (looking back I swear I saw another light on the top of the object when it left us but my brother saw no light). It followed us just above the tree tops, which I estimate was probably 20-30 feet above our car (possibly even less it was incredibly close to our car). My perspective of it was massive (it covered a good portion of the sky above our vehicle) but its size was probably about three to five times our car's size. It gently rolled back and forth very slightly between the left and right windows of our car; allowing us to see it above our car while we were inside of it. The object seemed to hover more toward where my brother and I were sitting in the center of the car. My father, as he was driving, never looked up to see the object. It seemed odd to me that he didn't look up, but we never actually arrived at a place where he could or would stop the car. The purpose of this object has always been baffling to me, but it seemed distinctly interested in our vehicle and ours alone. Another odd thing I noticed when we were driving is that there didn't appear to be any people near our vehicle (on foot or in other cars). The only other vehicle I possibly spotted was probably a mile behind us. When we approached the nearby Mejier the object veered away (back to the left, the direction it came from), I never saw it raise a significant height but it seemed to move off to the horizon. My brother and I tracked it as long as we could until it looked like a multiple colored star in the distance. It remained stationary and I eventually assumed that this was in fact a star and not the object itself. We may have mistaken this star for the object in the distance as we lost sight of it, or it may have remained stationary for some reason at that point. We looked back in that direction when we came out of the Mejier and the light remained and I assumed it was a star.

Basically the object matched our cars velocity (probably 40-55 mph) as it came toward us. We were moving and it appeared stationary in the sense that it didn't move on the horizon, but only toward us in its initial appearance. It remained above our car for 15 minutes - it's speed was absolutely fixed with ours. It may have rotated slightly as it moved with our car and it seemed to veer slightly from left to right, but only by a few feet.

KOKOMO - NOBLESVILLE MINI FLAP
April 16, 2005

The following reports all sighting an April 16th date describe lights appearing in the sky as a string and either merging, disappearing or darting off. Essentially the descriptions are in many ways similar to the April, 2004 North/Central flap. We have no investigators in this area and only a few questions have been asked. Other than that which can be drawn from the descriptions can be surmised. From the north/central flap we know even close up (within a 100 feet) descriptions can give variations which is standard for UFO reports. Research shows these objects can and do change in appears. This applies to the March 21, 2005 reports as well.  Please note; Anyone wishing to contact MUFON regarding these events or to report additional sightings should use our E-mail button or call 812-882-1862    -  Jerry Sievers MUFON State Director.

A friend of mine saw some orange lights as was described in the following reports, she does not want to report them but she lives just south of County road 850 W  and Bethel Rd. Not sure of the date of the sighting but it was about the same time as these reports and what she told me the sight was very similar to all the others. This was in Delaware county (Muncie).

Note: Due to description and location it is believed this sighting should be included with those which follow for April 16, 2005.

Seven To Eight Lights in Sky

Lafayette, Indiana                            Tippecanoe County
April 16, 2005           9:00 P.M.            Partly cloudy

Note: The following report was phoned in on April 29, 2005. The report supports the previous reports regarding this miniflap. This report brings the total official reports to seven which now shows more than twenty people commenting on have seen these lights in a given triangle extented from Noblesville to Kokomo to Layfayette.

Two witness report seeing seven to eight lights in row moving east, (right to left) on a curved course in the east-northeast quadrant of the sky. They believed the lights to be seven to ten miles away and at an altitude of 1000 feet. The lights were very bright for about 10 to 15 seconds and then went out one at a time. Shortly after the sighting a commercial air craft traveled through the area from the southeast.

Yellow Lights in Sky

Noblesville, Indiana                            Hamilton County
April 16, 2005           9:00 P.M.            Partly cloudy

I was standing on the deck when I saw several lights in the western sky. I thought it was a low flying plane, but as I looked it wasn't a plane. I told my step brother to look. As he was looking I turned around to get my camera. As I did it disappeared, just vanished without a trace. The lights where yellow. There where six or seven of them. It was a thin circular shape. It wasn't moving until I turned to get my camera. There was a commercial airline, when the lights appeared from the west. It had lasted at least 15 seconds before it disappeared. I was a little frightened.  I would like to know if anyone else witnessed this?

Orange Lights in Sky

Noblesville, Indiana                            Hamilton County
April 16, 2005           9:00 P.M.            Partly cloudy

I was sitting in my backyard when I noticed a sharp, bright orange light in the northwestern sky. I was sitting with three other adults and one child. At first I thought it was just a commercial airliner. The light then changed to two lights. I thought it was the airliner turning in pattern. Again the makeup of the lights caught my eye. In the next instant the light split into three lights. I told the other parties I was with what I was seeing and they turned to look at the lights. The lights split into four then six lights, all with the same intensity. This lasted eight to ten seconds, than the lights merged again into one light, then vanished. I have very good assessment skills and I have never encountered anything like this. The skies at the time were mostly clear with the moon almost at half in the western sky. I noticed the animals in the subdivision barking a lot as if they were being disturbed. These lights reminded me of the accounts I've heard about of the Phoenix lights.

Bright Yellowish Orange Lights in Sky

Kokomo, Indiana                            Howard County
April 16, 2005           8:55 P.M.            Weather calm, stars plentiful

We were escorting another couple out to their van. As we stepped off the porch, my husband shouted, "Hey, check this out!"  Due West of our house we saw a group of 5-7 bright, yellowish orange lights.  They were in a straight line formation. The only way I can describe the movement of these lights it to say that as the forward one appeared, the rear one blinked out.  It started with a couple and grew to six or seven before the 'movement' began.  Once all the lights appeared, this 'movement' of the lights in a forward motion gave the appearance of something HUGE rotating forward.  It was AWESOME!  At arms length, the lights were about 1/8 inch in size.  At arms length the entire formation was approximately 1 and 1/2 inches long.   It appeared to be very low in the sky, hovering over the South side of Kokomo.  Whatever it was it was huge and low.  The whole thing only lasted maybe 20-30 seconds. Suddenly, as fast as it was there, it just "popped' out, like someone flipped a switch.  There were 4 witnesses.  The first thing said was, "maybe that's one of those UFO's!" Maybe a flare or space junk.  We don't think it was a flare because it didn't come from the ground. It just appeared in a sideways motion, from left to right.  Not from the ground up, like a flare would. It didn't sparkle or fizzle out.  It just 'turned off."  As with space junk I have seen, it didn't sparkle or streak the sky.  Later the first thing that came to mind were the Phoenix lights incident.

I saw a string of 6 lights over the trees as I was driving home Sat. 4/16/05 at 9:30 PM. No sounds and they slowly moved right to left. As I got closer, the lights were no longer visible, because I think I drove right under the UFO as the sky became completely black above my car. I did not stop driving because I was alone and trying to deny what I was experiencing. A sane 50 year old woman like me doesn't believe in UFOs. Do I? Well, since two workfriends also saw the lights and my daughter and her husband saw the lights also. I guess I'm a believer now.

Yellow Lights in Sky

Russiaville, Indiana (Kokomo)                                Howard County
April 16, 2005           8:00 P.M.  approx.                    Warm, humid, clear
Duration: 20 seconds

There were 5 (I think) lights.  It seemed as though there was a center light & 2 lights on either side of it.  They were a bright yellow (the color, shape & density of the lights looked the same as a "soft white" light bulb from a distance).  It was probably 1000 feet away from us, and 500 feet off of the ground.  If it was an arms length away from us, the center light would probably be the size of a basketball, and the smallest light would probably be the size of a softball.  At the distance they were away from us, the center one looked to be the size of a golf ball (or smaller), and the smaller ones were about the size of a dime.

My husband & I were driving along Alto Road, heading west.  He noticed the lights & pointed them out to me.  The lights appeared to be over the cornfield to the southeast of the softball field that is North of Western high school.  When we noticed them, they were just hanging there in the sky, almost looking like a plane.  The center one was the brightest/biggest, then there were 2 more lights on either side of the center one.  They were lined up, as if to make us think it was a plane.  Then the 2 on either side of the center one swirled around, not like a plane rolling over, but more like moons circling a planet - very quickly.  Then they all moved around together & shot away, disappearing like a shooting star dissipates. We knew it could not be a shooting star though, because of the directions it went.

Mulberry, Indiana                                      Clinton County
April 16, 2005           9:00 P.M.  approx.          Warm, humid, clear
Duration: 1 minute

Right outside of Mulberry, between Lafayette and Frankfort.  We were having a camp fire when my neighbor yelled "Oh my god, What is that?!"  We all turned around and looked to the north and there were around six lights in the sky.  These lights were yellow and at least five times the size of the plane lights you would normally see in the sky.  Then as the far left light would fade out another would appear on the right side.  This continued for what seemed like at least a minute.  The lights were making a half moon shaped. Then the lights suddenly turned into one really faint light, then it zoomed due east across the sky and then finally completely disappeared.  Being that all people at the camp fire, about 10 people, saw this, we knew we weren't crazy.  I just stood there with my mouth wide open and said, "Oh my god, did that just happen?  Did I really just see that?"  It was more of a comfort to see that other people had seen the same.  However, no one else really explained them as being in a half moon shape, or that it conglomerated into one light.

Fast Flying Object

Gary, Indiana
April 8, 2005  8:30 PM

I was sitting on the back porch when I looked up and seen this super fast object just zooming by. I fixed my eyes on it and it was larger than a regular plane and it wasn't a jet.  This object was moving at a very fast pace and there was no sound coming from it. It made my dogs act really weird and made my hair stand on ends......

My husband caught a glimpse of this thing and he even admitted there was no sound of an engine.  Never in my life have I ever experience anything of a kind!!!!  It something I will never forget.

The object was shape like a plane but had a real flat body with wings that weren't normal size. There weren't any blinking lights except one little red reflector type light at the center of the tail. The color of  this thing was a blueish and grey mixed sort of like a smokey blue.   As this thing flew by it was zig-zagging as if it was avoiding something in the sky. The sky was very clear and no clouds.

Line of Bright Orange-Yellow Lights

Zionsville, Indiana             Boone County
March 21, 2005  8:40 PM

I was driving north on Michigan Road (US 421) from Zionsville towards home. The sky was clear.  As I approached the stoplight at the intersection of 146th Street and Michigan Road I noticed up in the sky, just a bit to my right and several thousand feet up, a line of three bright orange-yellow lights (similar in color and intensity of highway warning lights at night).  The line of three lights was moving slowly to the north.  At first I thought I was seeing a large airplane; I momentarily thought it might be a low flying C5A or 747. But then remembered planes would not have three lights of this color in a row (wingtip-center-wingtip). It then struck me that this was something I had never seen before.  I brought it to the attention of my wife (next to me) and my son (in the back seat), who both looked up and said they saw the same thing I described and were as confused as I was regarding what we were looking at.    After about three seconds, one of the lights dimmed and then went out. Then it came back on as the others dimmed and went out. Then the one that had gone out the first time and came back on again, dimmed and went off.  By this time we had turned into our subdivision, so I parked the car so my son and I could get out and try to see the lights again.  We did; this time we only saw two and they were several miles away but still headed in a northerly direction.  As before, after about ten seconds the two lights dimmed and then went out.  My son and I continued to watch the sky for ten more minutes but never saw the lights again. So we got back in the car and drove home getting there about 9:00 p.m.  My interest piqued and I then went outside to see if I see the lights again.  I did.  At about 9:10, I again saw three lights of the same color but not the same intensity. By now they appeared to be about 15 miles north of were I was, seemingly over the town of Kirklin, IN.  What I saw this time was two lights in a line and one light above the one on the left.  They stayed on for about 15 seconds, and then the leftmost of the two dimmed and went out. Then the other two dimmed and went out.  About five minutes later in the same spot, I saw two of the three lights come one again for about 10 seconds before they dimmed and went out.  I stayed outside for about 10 more minutes but never saw the lights again. For the record, I called the Executive airport near our house to ask if anyone there knew of anything going on - they didn't, and hadn't seen the lights. I called the newsroom at the Indianapolis Star to report what I had seen, but was told I was the only person who had called that evening.  I still haven't a clue what my son, my wife, and I saw, but after reading some of the postings from the April 2004 flap over north central Indiana I realized that other people have seen the same thing I saw, so now I am really interested in learning more.

Three Redish Lights
City:   Frankfort, Indiana                    Clinton County
March 21, 2005          9:00 PM

I saw three reddish lights to the north that were very high in the sky. From my experience I believe that they aircraft. They lasted about ten to fifteen seconds and then they faded away. It was very weird.  They were not falling stars. My friend also seen them. We were both weided out by them. We were parking my car to go into his house. When I did a search on mufon and seen that the family by Kirklin Indiana had seen something similar that they called orange lights and checked with airports to reveal that there wasn't supposed to be anything in the sky. I thought I would let you know that I had seen those three lights also. But what I saw were red ones. We seen them on the north side of Frankfort and it looked like they were in Carol County not Clinton. They were far away. At least that is where they appeared to be. Very strange.

Description: It was about 4 pm today when a few military jets flying south west and very low altitudes went right over our house. Then about an hour later I heard a helicopter coming from the south west, as I watched it go right over me , it was pretty high and going to the North East , I seen an object like nothing I have ever seen before! It looked like two very large cylinders side by side with a cloud like around it or like a mist, but I could still see the object moving off to the northeast very fast. It was partly cloudy but was in a blue part of the sky, I could only see it for about 3 to 5 seconds, it was very high in the sky.

Triangle Object Hovers and Melts Frozen Pond                    Columbia City, IN

January 31, 2005 10:00 PM                    Duration: 3 minutes

This was an evening of ice fishing I will never forget! Coming over the trees was an elongated triangular shaped "thing." It was hovering over the east end of the small farm pond I was fishing. It moved over the frozen water and lowered slowly. It sat motionless without a sound for a minute or two. As it rose silently, "steam" rose from the lake. The object slipped quietly past the trees and floated out of sight (my line of sight was obscured by trees). We used our cell phone and called the local sheriff, but there was no answer, as our cell phones had both gone dead. This was strange. Also, our battery operated fish locator (Vexilar) was also affected, we believe. The area of the pond where the object hovered was melted into about 2 inches.

Shooting Star with Large White Glow          Date:   January 25, 2005

This is an ongoing investigation

Event witnessed by female driver approximately 9:43 PM to 10 PM during a full moon.  She was driving her personal car home from a friend's house when she noticed the driver of the car in front of her turned the corner and nearly lost control.  She called a friend on her cell phone. As she was driving behind this driver, she was on a rural road and was concerned for her safety.  Her cell phone lost its signal and her car lost all power. She saw to her left what looked like a shooting star coming down.  The car in front also lost its lights and came to a stop approximately 100 yards in front of her.  She told me that a large, green and white glow, the size of a football field, came over the road from the opposite side and then lit up the area and both cars. Then a white column of light came down over the car in front of her.  The next she remembers is all the lights were gone and the car in front of her was gone.  She said her car was extremely cold and she was extremely cold. After restarting her car and turning on the heater, she noticed a small plastic bottle of lotion she had with her had expanded considerably.  She drove home.  She did not get much sleep that night and it bothered her about the disappearing car and she mentioned numerous times of a nagging feeling of lost time.

MUFON investigators met with the witness and went to the site again on January 30, 2005.  The witness seems to be bothered by the incident.  She had had two previous encounters nearby.  These encounters were in the same area.  Also, of interest is a neighbor and his son who live next to this field who heard a loud noise the same night. They lost their satellite dish signal.  The son said he has lived there all his life and he has seen silver balls of light in the field.

Posted: January 20, 2004                    Date: January 14, 2005 Time: Approx. 6:00 p.m.

Location of Sighting: At my home looking west south west. Number of witnesses: 3. Number of objects: 6+. Shape of objects: Ship looking object going up. Then up and down shooting fireballs.

Full Description of event/sighting: Friday evening, January 14, 2005 at about 6:00 p.m.? When I got home Friday, the sunset was brightly lit orange and huge clouds were present here in Ohio. I got my camcorder out and was video taping the clouds, then I caught my first strange occurrence on tape. I saw a ball that appeared to be orange or yellow slowly moving straight up into the sky. It took about 5-6 minutes to finally go out of site. Then about thirty seconds later I observed trails of fire falling from the sky. Three fireballs came from different directions and the were all falling to somewhat the same area.

The strange part is while they were falling, there were some different thing being shot up into the sky. I've seen shooting stars and these were not. These things were burning up as they came into our atmosphere and took approximately 40 to 90 seconds to burn up or disappear. Jets in groups of two's flew over head for they next 2-3 hours. They were chasing something. I was so scared. Never in my life have I ever seen anything like this.

Date Reported:  Monday, May 9, 2005

Yellow Lights in Sky

Two Very Large Cylinders Side By Side

Wednesday at 5:05 pm March 9th 2005

Spectacular Sky Show - Video                    Hicksville, Ohio (Northeast of Fort Wayne IN)
