INDIANA MUFON UFO REPORTS
2001 ARCHIVE
5 January 2001 Bloomington, Indina  12:30 AM  State Road 45

Witness observed two very bright lights (yellow and white) on the side of State Road 45 at an altitude of less that 100 feet.  The witness pulled off of the road to observe the lights
and noted that several other cars did the same.  There was no noise as the object moved
over the highway and the car of the witness.  The craft was seen to be triangle shaped of
only 30-40 feet in length as it was back-lit by light pollution from Bloomington and had a light on each tip of the triangle.  It appeared to 'float' rather that be propelled and move off to the north-northwest at a slow speed.

Referred to independent investigator, Jeff Burnett.  Many thanks to Jeff for the fine field work in photographing and surveying the area and for mapping the movements of the UFO.

25 March 2001 just north of Markleville in Madison County:

The witness reported a black, somewhat oblong-shaped object of perhaps 25 to 30 feet in diameter with a larger light in what was perceived to be the front of the object and a smaller light in the perceived rear.  The object was observed for about 7 minutes and seemed to move rather slowly at times. However it "caught up" with the witness after she had turned on down another road to her home.  The object was then directly overhead and as she turned away to open the garage door - it disappeared.

6 May 2001 LaPorte, Indiana, 4 Witnesses, 17 Objects:

Witness Description:  I was in a car with friends and saw strange objects in the night sky. These objects were cube-shaped with a cylinder down the middle.  A shaft of light came from the bottom.  As the objects approached the engine began to accelerate and the headlights increased in brightness until we turned off the car in fear.  Also, we noticed no noise and a deathly quiet as the object grew closer.

Cube-shaped UFOs are rather rare (at least in Indiana), however this has been the second such report in the last several months (see October 2000 Daviess county sighting).  Electromagnetic effects on vehicles usually cause a failure of its systems rather than an increase in efficiency.  There is also a presumed animal effect - "a deathly quiet as the object grew closer".

Investigator's Notes:  This report came from NUFORC (Thanks to Peter Davenport).  Witness report is by a licensed medical professional, but further contact with this witness was not successful.

20 May, 2001 Winslow, Indiana

Three pair of triangle-shaped objects with four lights alternating blinks appeared flying rapidly in the sky. My brother and I were sitting inside the house when he spotted an orange glow through the window in the door. He asked to come and look at it through the window. I too witnessed the bright orange glow that seemed to light up the ground and sky. We then went outside to get a better look. Once outside we both witnessed six objects in the sky. They were grouped in pairs. There were 4 lights, 3 in front-almost in a row-and one in back, forming a triangle shape on the object. The light in back was red-the three in front were white-appearing a bit yellowish-blinking in sequence from left to right. They were lower in the sky than the stars and lower than most airplanes, moving quite rapidly. When one object would blink another object would blink back. One pair flew
directly over our heads. This is when we saw the most detail as described above. The three pairs were spaced in three different directions in the sky all flying in approximately the same direction. They then disappeared. It was a very clear night.

27 May, 2001  Columbia City, Indiana

Witnesses statement: At around 11:00 PM on the 27th of May a friend and I were sitting in a hot tub when I observed what at first I thought was a plane. It moved across the sky at too high a rate of speed to be one though. It came to a stop and hovered at what I would estimate to be between 3-8 thousand feet. It was a vertical shaft of  white/yellow light with a red light shaped like an upside down horseshoe at the bottom. It pulsated and dimmed. When bright it had a triangular shaped light near the top. It made no sound as it moved. It stayed in it's hover and sometimes turned, bobbed around and weaved. Then I noticed further away another one with a similar shape and color pattern. At times these UFO's aligned themselves at the same angles as if in formation. they stayed like this for approximately 2 hours before I saw what I thought was some sort of helicopter or plane coming to check them out. It turned out to be another craft that was more square in shape and seemed to sparkle or light up at a more rapid rate. This smaller craft seemed lower to the ground, maybe around 2-3 thousand feet. What was striking about all of this is that it was a fairly cloudy night, but when the UFO's were present the clouds seemed to part the same way a boat makes a wake behind it. Dogs in the neighborhood were howling as this was taking place. These UFO's could move in any direction and made no sound. The sky/clouds seemed to take on a reddish hue when they were lit. They would dim themselves then get bright again. they left after a few hours then came back at around 3-4am  ...same cloud wake, same position in the sky...right before they left the one closest to me seemed to approach the other farther away then they disappeared. It was the greatest thing I ever saw in my life and I will go to my grave believing that what I saw could not be of this earth.

15 June, 2001  Hope, Indiana

Witness comments: I have seen these objects in the east several times. We first thought they were helicopters from the Army camp Attaberry.  When they did not move we knew that they were not. They appeared as penny sized lights with surface color of white, yellow, orange, yellow with exterior lights (white, blue, white, yellow). They brightened real bright. We noticed a static type hum that affected the cell phone. The dog and goats reacted with excitement. Psychological effects during the event were helplessness, impounded thinking, memory lapse, involuntary actions and afterward dreams. Physiological affects were ears and fatigue.

Investigators Notes: During phone conversation witness was disturbed as he related the events that happened during the sighting. Investigation continues.

12 July 2001   Southern Indiana   Time: 6:00 AM  Duration: 6-8 minutes Witness: Two adults

Camping with friends. Shortly before sundown we noticed a round, lighted object hovering with a wobbling movement above the trees on the other side of the lake. It appeared to have a light source emitting from the front and possibly pointing downward. Its behavior lended to the possibility that it may have been searching for something through the trees. The reporting witness remained calm and objective through the duration of the event. "I would have thought it was a helicopter if it were not for the fact that it was not making a sound. It disappeared as dawn broke. This happened in 1999 in a state park in southern Indiana. Witness name withheld. (On file at MUFON)

WHITE SILENT CIRCLE THAT FADES IN BRIGHTNESS, TRAVELING SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST AT 5,000 FEET.

I HAVE NOTICED THIS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. A WHITE CIRCLE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, GOING FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST.THE GLOW WILL FADE IN AND OUT.THERE IS NO APPARENT SOUND WITH THIS OBJECT. I USUALLY NOTICE THIS CRAFT IN THE TIME FRAME OF 2:45 TO 3:15 AM. THE FLIGHT PATTERN IS NOT DIRECT. IT SEEMS TO FADE OFF COURSE, THEN CORRECT ITS SELF. I HAVE SEEN THIS APPROXIMATELY THREE OR FOUR TIMES SINCE THE FIRST OF JUNE. ON THE MOST RECENT SIGHTING, THERE WERE AIRPLANES COMING FROM
THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION SHORTLY AFTER MY VISUAL CONTACT (SURELY THEY HAD TO HAVE NOTICED--RIGHT ?) THE OBJECT APPEARS TO BE AT AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 5,000 TO PREHAPS 7500 FEET.

31 July 2001   Ohio-Indiana Boarder

Peter Davenport the Director of NUFORC reports that on Tuesday night, July 31st, at 2120 hours. (PDT), He received a report from a long haul trucker, traveling westbound through Ohio, and located 64 miles east of the Ohio border.  He reported witnessing a very dramatic blue-green "fireball," which was streaking from his left to right, approximately 25-30 degrees above the horizontal plane in the western sky ahead of him.  He telephoned two minutes after the event.

31 July 2001  Milan Indiana

Outstanding Researcher Kenny Young writes he received an email from the gentleman claiming that an object was again visible last night after 2:00 AM.  At any rate, the weather around here is hot and hazy with a gloomy overcast. I would be hard to imagine an atmospheric or celestial issue like an incoming bolide/meteor/fireball that could be seen in daylight through this haze.  I had just talked with one of the witnesses by telephone regarding two suspected UFO sightings near Milan at 2:45 a.m. on July 31 and again on August 1st at 3:35 a.m.  She sounded sober and alert.  She said that what they had seen the last two evenings was 'very unusual' and that she had "never seen anything like this before."  She described distant 'star-like lights' in a fixed triangular formation.  This was not airplanes." I inquired how she could ascertain these were not airplanes (almost to the point of asking a leading question by getting her to describe any particular glow or color) and she said: "By the way it looked" and again went on to describe the three distant 'star-like lights' in a fixed triangular formation.

I am not satisfied that this is 'something different' without any outstanding characteristic such as glow, pulse or halo.  Just three star-like lights that could easily be high-flying jets for purposeful or purely coincidental reason were flying about the same speed and from the position of the observer may have been in a convenient triangular formation.  Perhaps even high-flying spy satellites?  Thanks to KENNY YOUNG ufo@FUSE.NET.

14 August 2001  South Bend, Indiana  01:42 PM  Duration: Under one minute

Setting on the back door step I heard a whistle (hawk like sound). I
looked straight up (thinking to see a hawk) and saw this black coffin shaped
object flying directly away from me at a high, straight, steady, rate of speed
until it disappeared behind some trees directly in front of me. I then realized
it was no hawk and thought of getting my binoculars, but there was no time. At
its rate of speed, it would have crossed the entire sky, directly over me in
about 6 sec. I heard the whistle 1 more time before I lost sight of it. My
impression was that it was low, 800 to 1500 ft. Size: 11 to 30 feet. Elevation:
75-80 degrees. Altitude: Over 500 feet. Sky: partly cloudy. Cloud Cover:
Over 5000 feet. Weather: Windy.

5 December 2001 Terre Haute, Indiana. One Witnesses- male

Witness was preparing to walk his dog outdoors. As he opened a sliding door facing the south he simultaneously heard a soft whooshing sound and saw a dark object which appeared like a "flattened air bubble rising through water" move softly straight upward and disappeared. His dog acted very strangely following the encounter. The following day, less than 100 feet from his residence and at the same place of his sighting of the night before, he found on a curious new growth of grass. The growth was on a creek bank and included small dark mushroom formed in a crescent shape. His dog would not go near the area and acted strangely as the night before in the presence of the object. A another possible reported anomaly was the witnesses watches uncharacteristically gained one minute, 34 seconds after the incident. Photos and soil and vegetable samples taken.

Witness name withheld by request. Investigation by Roger Sugden ASD.
